Lenten Community Outreach and Engagement
In addition to our regular ongoing outreach efforts these opportunities are offered:
Manna Bags
Lent is a good time to remember our neighbors in need. Here's a chance for your family to volunteer safely from your home. Every week, the Emergency Aid Coalition (EAC) distributes hundreds of sandwiches plus hygiene bags (with soap, washcloths, etc.) and manna bags (with extra wrapped snacks). We'd like to recruit ~ 10 families to assemble ~ 10 hygiene or manna mags. We'll drop off the supplies at your home and deliver them to the EAC when you're finished. Please contact Mary Johns ([email protected]) if interested or if you have questions. Thank you!
Fill the Trailer
Every Lent we gather supplies of necessities for our neighbors experiencing homelessness in partnership with Lord of the Streets (LOTS). This year we will collect goods by the Holman Street entrance on Sundays and by appointment and deliver them to LOTS during their office hours. Men's underwear and socks (new, size L and XL) are needed.
Heaven Bound COVID-19 Memorial
An interactive artist's display in honor of all who have died during the COVID-19 pandemic will be constructed throughout Lent. A mechanism for adding your prayers and the names of those you mourn will be a part of the memorial exhibit.
The Dedication and Blessings of this memorial and the Pandemic Stations of the Cross will take place on March 24, 2021, in honor of the Feast Day of St. Oscar Romero.
The Cross and COVID, Pandemic Stations of the Cross
Multiple national and international photographers have contributed a one-of-a kind Pandemic Stations of the Cross which will be exhibited through Good Friday. They are shared for reflection and truth-telling, lament, and healing. Throughout Lent and especially on Good Friday, we encourage all to pray the Stations of the Cross which is available on page 47 of the Books of Occasional Services (2018). Inner City Spirit Podcast Series
Every Saturday in Lent, look for the Inner City Spirit podcast series entitled "These Are the People in Our Neighborhood". Members of the Midtown community will be interviewed by The Rev. Hannah E. Atkins Romero and The Rev. Luz Cabrera Montes. The podcast can be found on Spotify, iTunes, or by clicking here.
Trinity Masks
Our very popular Trinity masks are on sale for $10 each. All proceeds will go to support community engagement and outreach ministries of our parish. Contact Pat Laubach at [email protected] for more information and to purchase your masks.
